After a snowstorm dumps a healthy amount of snow on the ground, Andy takes his dogs for a walk。 Tara, his beloved golden retriever goes digging in that snow and uncovers a body。 Not just any body, it turns out, but the mayor。The evidence points to a reporter that used to work for Andy's friend, Vince, at his paper。 Despite this scandal that he kicked off last year centering on the mayor, Vince believes him and supports him the best he can。 One way Vince supports the reporter is that he gets Andy to defend him。Also, instead of Andy taking in the suspect's dog for the duration of the trial, Vince does it this time。 Vince is not a dog person—he's not much of a people person, either, so readers can imagine how his housing the dog will go。COMFORT FOOD I'm pretty sure I've said this (or something like it) before—it's hard to track in a 24 book series just what I've said。 But these Andy Carpenter books literary comfort food。 You know what you're going to get, you know you like it, and it just makes you feel good。For example, you know when it gets to the part about jury deliberation, Andy's going to say and do a few things。 And it's just as enjoyable to see him say that in this book as it was 20+ books ago。That said? Rosenfelt managed to surprise me a couple of times and did some stuff in the courtroom that I haven't seen from him before。HOLIDAY CONTENT In the last few years that Rosenfelt has been doing these Christmas-y themed books, I've always been mildly surprised at how low little "Holiday Content" there is in the book。 This one seemed to be the lightest on Christmas/New Year's material。Yeah, the weather and dates help ground the action and show how fast things are moving in terms of the trial。 But there's not much more to it than that。 Basically, this is just an excuse to get another Andy Carpenter book this year。 And I'm fine with that。SO, WHAT DID I THINK ABOUT BEST IN SNOW? I really enjoyed this—the case was a good puzzle。 The courtroom antics and strategies were up to Rosenfelt's usual standards (maybe a little better than some)。 The little bit of action that crept in (mostly involving Marcus) was great, too。The members of Andy's team were as entertaining as usual and, of course, so were the dogs (including Vince's new charge)。If you're a long-time reader of the series, you know what you're going to get here—with a couple of surprises。 If you haven't tried this series yet, you really should—this is as good a place as any。 But once you start, you'll have a hard time stopping。 That's not a warning, that's an assurance。Disclaimer: I received this eARC from St。 Martin's Press via NetGalley in exchange for this post—thanks to both for this。 。。。more

Nothing better to kick off the Christmas season than the new Andy Carpenter novel from David Rosenfelt, Best in Snow。 (Christmas season, according to Andy’s wife Laurie, starts around October and lasts for four months。) Andy is out in the park walking the dogs in the freshly fallen snow when beloved Golden Retriever Tara literally digs up the body of the freshly murdered Mayor of Patterson, New Jersey。 The police waste no time arresting a journalist, Bobby Nash, whose negative story about the Ma Nothing better to kick off the Christmas season than the new Andy Carpenter novel from David Rosenfelt, Best in Snow。 (Christmas season, according to Andy’s wife Laurie, starts around October and lasts for four months。) Andy is out in the park walking the dogs in the freshly fallen snow when beloved Golden Retriever Tara literally digs up the body of the freshly murdered Mayor of Patterson, New Jersey。 The police waste no time arresting a journalist, Bobby Nash, whose negative story about the Mayor landed him in hot water and cost him his job when the story was proven false。 Andy’s buddy Vince insists he’s a good kid who couldn’t possibly have done it and just like that, reluctant attorney Andy Carpenter has a new client。Soon, more bodies start to pile up as bombs are literally going off all over Patterson。 The former Mayor was a front-runner for Governor。 Now there’s a new front-runner as well as a hotly contested mayors race。 As if that weren’t enough, a gangster from Detroit is spotted in the area。 This leads to no shortage of suspects and possible motives that Andy has to sift through if he is going to keep his client from spending the rest of his life in jail。 Andy, as is often the case, becomes a target himself, letting him know that there is definitely more here than meets the eye。Fortunately for Nash, Andy has a brilliant legal mind and an eclectic but talented group of investigators and legal team at his disposal。 This is a wonderful mystery that will have you puzzling over every development from beginning to end。 Rosenfelt is a master at spinning out these plot threads before eventually tying them all together in a big satisfying bow。 The story is filled with wit, humor, and plenty of excitement。 Andy’s team and his friends are both hilariously familiar and simultaneously full of surprises。 This book is a treat for series fans as well as easy for new readers to jump into。Audiobook is my preferred way to take in an Andy Carpenter story because narrator Grover Gardner absolutely crushes it every time and he does so here once again。 His tone and inflection perfectly capture the dry, sarcastic humor of Andy and particularly his banter with newspaper editor Vince and police chief Pete。 They share a recognizably juvenile, insult-based camaraderie common to men who would do anything for one another。 This is conveyed by the words on the page and made manifest by Gardner’s excellent delivery。 His voicing of Marcus, Laurie’s ex-partner and ofttimes secret bodyguard for Andy, makes me laugh out loud every single time。Treat yourself to this wonderful book and series。 You won’t regret it。I was provided a copy of this audiobook by the publisher。 。。。more

Best in Snow by David Rosenfelt is an Andy Carpenter Mystery that is well into the series。 Fans of the series will know the main characters maybe how Andy met, fell in love with his now wife, Laurie,。 However, this is my first book to read or listen to in the series。 It did not hinder my enjoyment at all in listening to this story。 Except for one fact, how did Andy, a lawyer, come to have “significant wealth” so that he could be semi-retired。 Now and forever more the voice I hear in my head for Best in Snow by David Rosenfelt is an Andy Carpenter Mystery that is well into the series。 Fans of the series will know the main characters maybe how Andy met, fell in love with his now wife, Laurie,。 However, this is my first book to read or listen to in the series。 It did not hinder my enjoyment at all in listening to this story。 Except for one fact, how did Andy, a lawyer, come to have “significant wealth” so that he could be semi-retired。 Now and forever more the voice I hear in my head for Andy Carpenter will be the narrator of this story Grover Gardner。 The book is written in first person。 Mr。 Gardner has Andy’s biting wit, and opinionated style of speaking and thinking down pat。 The story consists of a couple of murders and some bombing from Thanksgiving to after the New Year。 Yet I would not call it a Christmas story as such。 It is known early on that the bomber is not the person arrested for the murder, so it was difficult to see any connection to the bombing even in a remote way as I was reading。 Since this writer is too accomplished to just throw in random events I knew that there had to be a connection but the reader needs to be patient to learn how。Andy is arm twisted into defending the reporter who is charged。 Like the TV court room shows it was clear that Andy and his team would need to find the real killer to get their man freed。 Andy’s support team is one of the best group of characters。 I liked them better than Andy’s friends。 As the story progresses clues and shady characters are revealed。 However, the last confrontation still had a twist that I did not guess。 Kudos for that。I am still new to audiobooks。 With that can said I believe this mystery would be interesting reading on its own but listening to it read by Grover Gardner enhance my enjoyment of it。An ARC of the audiobook was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed。 All thoughts and opinions are my own。 。。。more

I listened to the audio version provided by Netgalley in exchange for my honest review。Best in Snow was a pleasant listen。 The narrator has a soothing voice that fits the character of Andy。 The author basically uses the same voice for the entire book (or the differences between characters is very, very subtle) except for one of the bad guys。The story uses a nice combination of court room scenes and investigative and personal scenes。Best for those looking for a relatively light, cozyish read。

Frankly I don’t know。 The jokes hit。 The conspiracy is well rounded and thought out。 The action is well written and the court scenes are exciting。 It is the platonic ideal of an Andy Carpenter book。For the first time in a while, I listened to an audio version and I think that may have helped as well。 Grover Gardner IS Andy Carpenter。 His narration is just plain funny, he punches up jokes with his inflection。 Gardner really is the king of these books。 Even when I’m reading in print, it is his voice I hear in my head。Just another gem from Rosenfelt。 If you’ve liked the last 24, you’ll like this one。 And I assume I’ll type the same thing when Andy Carpenter 26 comes out。 Thanks to Netgalley for the advanced audiobook for review purposes。 。。。more

This was my first try with an adult mystery/court room crime。 You don't need to read other books in the series in order to read this one, it stands on its own。 The writing was different than what I have read before, I'm not sure if it is typical of this genre or just this particular author。 It was a lot of explanation of each decision and it could have easily been cut out and cut the book in half and I don't think it would change anything for the plot。 I didn't mind it for one book but I don't w This was my first try with an adult mystery/court room crime。 You don't need to read other books in the series in order to read this one, it stands on its own。 The writing was different than what I have read before, I'm not sure if it is typical of this genre or just this particular author。 It was a lot of explanation of each decision and it could have easily been cut out and cut the book in half and I don't think it would change anything for the plot。 I didn't mind it for one book but I don't want to read it often。 The actual court room crime was fine, It was entertaining but I didn't care about the outcome at all。 I think I learned that this genre just isn't for me and that fine。 For the right audience I think the book would be very successful。 。。。more

4。3 Fun Stars!I am a big Andy fan。 This is #24 in the series and #18 for me。For those us who have read and know Andy we were pleased to hear that Edna is getting married。 Edna is in her mid-sixties and has worked ~oops has been employed for over 20 years。 Yep back in the days when Andy was a busy Attorney。 Since he came into a larger inheritance he doesn’t actually ‘work’! Edna calls herself his Office Assistant, Executive Secretary actually has given herself many titles but she does NOT work in fact, hates it and does everything to avoid it。 Well! She is marrying David who is retiring and owns twelve Taco Bells ~ so Edna can leave Andy Right? In the meantime, she wants David to meet Andy’s family ~ wife Laurie and son Ricky so invited herself over for coffee。 As the evening goes on and many cups of coffee are served, Andy and Laurie are hoping Edna and David will soon leave。 Additionally, since it is November and Laurie loves Christmas so has been playing Christmas music for hours。 Andy not is not a fan and decides it is time to walk the dogs! There are three dogs now ~ Tara, according to Andy a golden retriever like no other; also Sebastian a sweet basset hound Andy has told as before that Sabastian takes walks with the speed of your average refrigerator! The newest addition is Hunter a pug。 David joins them even though it is in the middle of snowstorm。 As they are walking in the snow in a near-by park Tara, smells something buried in the snow。 Yep a body and it is Alex Olivia, the mayor!! Thus begins Andy’s involvement in defending the accused and of course, finding whodunit! I know I spent a lot of time on Enda but the recurring characters are so much fun。 In fact, they typically have me laughing out loud! I do enjoy David Rosenfelt’s wit。 I especially love the audio as narrator Grover Gardner is Andy Carpenter。 In fact, as I am reading I can hear Mr。 Gardner’s deadpan voice in my head!As in most of Andy’s stories there is courtroom drama which I LOVE!Also am so happy that the fun ‘Movie Talk’ returned ~ I sure missed it in the past few stories! No spoiler but are you wondering if ………。。 there will be the traditional “Victory Party”?Want to thank NetGalley and St。 Martin’s Press ~ Minotaur Books for this eGalley。 This file has been made available to me before publication in an early form for an honest professional review。 Publishing Release Date scheduled for October, 19, 2021 。。。more

So, I was sold on this as it is titled and marketed as a Christmas book。 Unfortunately, it was not。 It was just more of a mystery which was ok but I was really excited to get to my holiday reading!! The mystery was well written but at times a bit boring。 It is worth a read if you are a fan of mysteries。

One of the funnest mystery series around is David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series。 This book marks #24。 This is also the 5th Christmas themed book。 Yes, the books tend to be formulaic and certain ideas are repeated。 But they are still just plain old fun。 And kudos to Rosenfelt for always providing a well thought out plot with lots of twists and endings I never see coming。 He proves that mysteries don’t have to be dark to be engrossing。This time, the mayor of Patterson has been murdered。 And An One of the funnest mystery series around is David Rosenfelt’s Andy Carpenter series。 This book marks #24。 This is also the 5th Christmas themed book。 Yes, the books tend to be formulaic and certain ideas are repeated。 But they are still just plain old fun。 And kudos to Rosenfelt for always providing a well thought out plot with lots of twists and endings I never see coming。 He proves that mysteries don’t have to be dark to be engrossing。This time, the mayor of Patterson has been murdered。 And Andy and Tara are the ones to find the dead body。 Reporter Bobby Nash had recently done an expose on the mayor which blew up in his face, so no surprise he’s arrested for the murder。 Andy’s friend, Vince, convinces Andy to take the case。 As always, there is so much evidence against Bobby, the case looks like a lock for the prosecution。 Vince’s awakening as a dog lover is alone worth the price of the book。 But as always, there are lots more laughs throughout the book。 Andy is a smart a** of the first degree and never wastes an opportunity to be one。 Grover Gardner is the perfect narrator。 He totally channels Andy。 My thanks to Netgalley and Macmillan Audio for an advance copy of this book。 。。。more

Thank you NetGalley … for (once again) introducing me to a great author, who has written dozens of books, and had not been on my radar。Best in Snow is evidently #24 in the Andy Carpenter series。 I didn’t realize that this was a “series” book and requested it because I wanted something light and the cover was so darn adorable。 I loved the snarky wit of Andy Carpenter and how he incorporated his love of dogs into the story。 As Andy is walking his dogs, they find a body。 This book reminded me of th Thank you NetGalley … for (once again) introducing me to a great author, who has written dozens of books, and had not been on my radar。Best in Snow is evidently #24 in the Andy Carpenter series。 I didn’t realize that this was a “series” book and requested it because I wanted something light and the cover was so darn adorable。 I loved the snarky wit of Andy Carpenter and how he incorporated his love of dogs into the story。 As Andy is walking his dogs, they find a body。 This book reminded me of the Robert B。 Parker books。 I smiled and laughed out loud with the writing style! Best in Snow is another great installment of the Andy Carpenter series! Don’t worry if you haven’t read the other books in the series, Best in Snow stands perfectly fine on its own。 Andy Carpenter is a retired attorney who tends to get caught up in helping others who aren’t able to help themselves。 Usually it is one of Andy’s cronies who manages to get him in the middle of an investigation。 That being said, Andy is not just a great attorney, he can also lead a criminal investigation with impress Best in Snow is another great installment of the Andy Carpenter series! If you have read and enjoyed any of the previous books in this series, you will definitely want to read more books from the Andy Carpenter series。 。。。more
